Mind Your Own Body Updates

Hello Health and Fitness Guru/Aficionado/Enthusiast/Slug:

My blogging has started out lame and continues to be...  I am still trying to get my footing with blogging and find the time to not only write something substantive, but make it relevant to your personal health and fitness.  And, in the process make it entertaining, cutting edge, sarcastic, motivational and inspirational ALL at the same time.  Did I mention worthy of national publication?  Don't you see the tall order I have created for myself and why I struggle with what to write and why I can't sleep and why I have no hair?

I thought I would update everyone on what I and Mind Your Own Body have been up to.  Basically relentless self promotion to garner more business and expand my business horizons.  OK, I know this is shameless self promotion, but because I am admitting this, it's OK right?

Truthfully business is slow and I am aspiring to influence a larger audience and spread my wealth of knowledge and experience to a broader market.  Essentially, I was feeling a bit stale after almost 20 years as a personal trainer and decided to up my game, take a few leaps of faith and have fun in the process.

The most exciting news is that here in 2012 I finally have a Mind Your Own Body web site - www.mindyourownbody.com

Also, I am now on Thumbtack, (www.thumbtack.com), a one-of-a-kind local and nationally based referral service and web site that can provide a resource for just about any type of service you can imagine.  There are no fees for the consumer/end user and all of the businesses listed on Thumbtack are legitimate and have been reviewed and approved exclusively by Thumbtack.

I spent several hours developing my listing by writing about the personal health and fitness services that MYOB offers by answering tons of questions.  I would love it if you would take a look.  If so inclined, you can even write a review if you are or were a client.

Finally, there is also a Linked In MYOB Company page that you can follow if you are a Linked In member.

And, the final drum roll please!  MYOB is now on Yelp, a web site for the people written by the people containing reviews and critiques of just about every business in Washington, DC and beyond.  Yelp was at one time dismissed of their impact, but now Yelp reviews can greatly impact the success of a business and their web site hosts opinions that are quite influential.

There are many other things in store for Mind Your Own Body that are a big secret, but I will say keep your eyes and e-mails open for the updated MYOB Newsletter coming soon and look for us on the top social media channels on the Internet.

As always I absolutely welcome and will only grow from your feedback.  Help me help you publish a better blog.  I would also love suggestions on any topics (related to health, fitness and wellness) that you wish discussed, dismissed, endorsed or joked about.  After all this is my Blog and I can say anything I wish, well almost.

Stay fit, sane and well,

Kevin

Embracing Social Media and Overwhelmed

Welcome to Blog Post #2 for Mind Your Own Body

I hope you are having a happy, healthy and productive day!

Let me start by saying that I love social media and while I am overwhelmed with learning what I can, I am having a blast! I have truly found a new passion and it's just what I needed to kick my career in the butt.  And I am reading and learning at a level that I had not previously experienced.  It has been a rapid and exciting learning experience.

I decided that in order to be a part of the bigger game and make a larger impact in the health and fitness world, I had to embrace social media.  I know, it's about time!  Remember, I just dumped my AOL e-mail address after 18 years.  So I am a little behind.  Do you think I should Upgrade from my rotary phone now?

So my overall goal with social media is indeed to reach a broader audience, but take note I won't compromise quality for quantity.  I will read everything I send out until I can hire someone that shares my passion, knowledge and attention to detail.

Perhaps this approach is crazy and naive, but in the few short weeks a have been using social media, I am rather appalled at some of the information that is being posted throughout social media sites on a professional level.  I believe that anything I send out is a reflection of me and Mind Your Own Body and I will discern over everything I post.  And as I stated in my first blog post, I will only be using social media for professional purposes and while I will certainly add a personal touch, I will not be Tweeting or posting overt personal information.  And Twitter and the like will not be gossipy resources.

Nonetheless, I am overwhelmed and learning as I go, which is quite rapidly!.  But, how can I possibly learn how to navigate all these social media sites effectively without professional assistance?  Twitter, Facebook, Linked In, Pinterest, HootSuite, Google + and the list goes on and on.  As a small business owner I don't have the operating budget or the luxury to hire a Social Media Manager.  So for now I am absorbing what I can and learning as I go.  And the learning process is very time consuming and I have completely embedded myself into the world of social media.  Some days I never leave my office or step away from the computer.

Please put the word out that I am offering a bartering exchange for personal training services.  If you know anyone that is a social media manager/expert and needs a personal trainer in Washington, DC, please have them get in touch with me directly,

I would love to hear from other small business owners on how they manage their own social media. management and also, which three social media outlets have been the most successful for them.  What about having 6, 8 or over 10 social media links?   When does it become overkill?

For now I am confident that you can join me and follow me on several of the top rated sites.  In doing so, I promise to deliver a wide variety of up-to-date topics, resources and information, all of which will be about Health, Fitness, Exercise, Personal Training, Nutrition, Outdoor Boot Camp, Motivation, Inspiration, Happiness and Fun and there will be a Social Media component included as it relates to Health and Fitness and Mind Your Own Body.

I am confident that all your personal health and fitness needs can be met in working with Mind Your Own Body, LLC. and in with the social media content and resources that will be available.

Which is a better Blog Site - Blogger or WordPress?

OMG! This is officially my first blog post and I have absolutely no idea what I am doing or where this post will end up.  But, I have to start somewhere, right?

I would like to hear from others which blog site is easier and more popular, Blogger or WordPress.  I am a huge Google fan, thus I am partial to Blogger.  Your suggestions are appreciated.

As I have done almost exclusively with Twitter, Facebook and Linked In, I will only be posting and blogging about that which pertains to health, fitness, wellness and the like and of course Mind Your Own Body, LLC.  Sorry, you won't know the next time I take the trash out, but you will read lots of great information and sources geared towards your own personal health.

I welcome your feedback and content suggestions.

Yours in health,
Kevin M. Norris
